Cancer Registry Operations is one of the six specialty courses in the Cancer Registry Management online training program. This course gives students an in-depth depiction of the systematic processes used in the daily operations of a Cancer Registry, including those to identify, code, maintain quality, and provide lifetime follow-up on cases.Detailed guidelines on how to determine which cases meet eligibility requirements of state and national standards. Insight will be given as to the role the standards play in providing comparable data for analysis.The standards necessary for registry operations, state and national, and also the voluntary standards for accredited cancer programs of the Commission on Cancer will be explored in detail.

    CRM is a self-paced program, designed for those interested in entering the cancer registry profession. Cancer Registrars possess the clinical and technical knowledge and skills necessary to maintain components of the disease-related data collection systems consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and accreditation requirements of the health care delivery system. In all types of facilities, and in various locations within a facility, cancer registrars manage and analyze clinical cancer information for the purpose of processing, maintaining, compiling and reporting health information for research, quality management/improvement, facility planning and marketing, monitoring patient outcomes, cancer program development, cancer prevention and surveillance, survival data, compliance of reporting standards, evaluation of the results of treatment, and national accreditation standards.
