This 10-topic course covers Domain 4 of the AHIMA RHIT certification domain and tasks. It is designed to review and reinforce knowledge of this particular domain.

COURSE OUTCOMES

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Assign diagnosis codes, procedure codes, and present on admission indicators according to appropriate coding conventions, rules and guidelines.
  • Identify key aspects of various payment systems.
  • Write effective and compliant queries to rpoviders and other qualified healthcare professionals when it is appropriate to do so.
  • Describe utilization management activities and explain the role of the HIM professional in utilization management.
  • Explain thehstandard of measurement known as Discharged Not Final Billed (DNFB).
  • Describe the impact of diagnosis and procedure code assignment on the case mix.
  • Manage healthcare claims denials.
  • Effectively audit diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • Provide education on topics identified as relevant on regulatory changes, new coding guidelines, payment standardsandbest practices.
